Children’s Home Society of West Virginia is a non-profit agency that has been serving children since 1896. Comprehensive child welfare, behavioral health, social casework, and advocacy services are provided to over 16,000 children and their families yearly from our thirteen primary locations throughout the state. Local programs include Foster Care, Adoption, Safe at Home, WE CAN Mentoring Program, The Monarch Family Support Center for Berkeley County, Honey Bee Family Support Center for Jefferson County, Independent Living, and Victoria’s House Child Advocacy Center. Since 1982 the Martinsburg site has supported the Eastern Panhandle community by providing children’s services, patronizing local businesses, and sustaining local jobs. At present, the agency provides employment for over 30 community members and offers an enriching experience to a growing number of volunteers and students. Please join our efforts in promoting the well-being of our community’s children through sponsorship of this annual event.

WHO WE ARE

The Society is a participatory organization consisting of employees, foster families, adoptive families, volunteers, Board of Directors, Director Emeriti, advisory council members, donors, benefactors, supporters, and friends. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that is representative of the communities we serve from around the state. We are licensed to provide child welfare and behavioral health services in West Virginia. We are a member agency of the West Virginia Alliance for Children and we are fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. Comprehensive child welfare, behavioral health, social casework, and advocacy provided services to 15,860 children and their families from our thirteen primary locations throughout the state. OUR MISSION & VISION The Mission of the Children’s Home Society is to promote the well-being of children. Our current efforts are directed at helping children find lifetime families, protecting and nurturing children, and helping preserve and strengthen their families. The Children’s Home Society, working in concert with other organizations and institutions, assures that each child in West Virginia grows up in a safe and nurturing family which provides for his or her current and future needs.

MARTINSBURG SERVICES & PROGRAMS

Foster Care provides temporary homes for children in loving families within local communities. We work hard to recruit, train, and maintain these loving families. Adoption is one of the oldest and dearest programs at the Society. We work to match adoptive parents with children needing permanent homes.

WECAN Mentor programs for children include matching mentors, tutoring services, camps, and other activities for children.

Victoria’s House Child Advocacy Center coordinates the efforts of many agencies to best advocate for children. All of these services are aimed at reducing trauma so that children and families may begin the healing process.

Safe at Home ensures youth remain in their own communities whenever safely possible. This reduces reliance on foster care/congregate care and helps to prevent reentries.

Monarch Family Support Center for Berkeley County is a community hub that provides supportive services to Berkeley County residents. Services include parenting workshops, emergency food pantry, an infant closet, a clothing and hygiene closet, and comprehensive referral services.

Honey Bee Family Support Center for Jefferson County is a community hub located in Ranson that provides supportive services to Jefferson County residents. Services include parenting workshops, emergency food pantry, an infant closet, a clothing and hygiene closet, and comprehensive referral services.

Independent Living Program provides assistance and comprehensive case management to young adults 18 to 23 who are transitioning from foster care to adulthood.
